Brazilian Clubs Take Control of the Libertadores Quarter-Finals

Brazilian clubs lead three of the four Copa Libertadores 2026 quarter-finals after the first legs: Fluminense beat Platense 2–0, Palmeiras beat LDU Quito 1–0 and Flamengo won 2–0 away at Independiente del Valle, while Corinthians drew 1–1 at Estudiantes. The return legs are on 15–17 September.

The Libertadores knockout stage is among the top football searches in Brazil on Google this month, with four Brazilian clubs still chasing South America's biggest club prize.

First-Leg Results

Fluminense 2–0 Platense — goals from Nonato and Hulk.
Palmeiras 1–0 LDU Quito
Estudiantes 1–1 Corinthians
Independiente del Valle 0–2 Flamengo — in Ecuador.

Where Each Tie Stands

Fluminense vs Platense. A two-goal home win gives Fluminense a strong advantage heading to Argentina.

Palmeiras vs LDU Quito. A narrow lead — the second leg in Quito, at high altitude, will be a real test.

Corinthians vs Estudiantes. A 1–1 draw in Argentina leaves the tie finely balanced for the return in Brazil.

Flamengo vs Independiente del Valle. A 2–0 away win puts Flamengo in a commanding position before playing at home.

Return Legs

The second legs are played between 15 and 17 September 2026. Flamengo host Independiente del Valle on 17 September at 21:30 (Brasília time). Check official club and CONMEBOL channels for all kick-off times and broadcasters.

How the Knockouts Work

Each quarter-final is played over two legs. The team with the higher aggregate score advances; if the aggregate is level after the second leg, the tie goes to a penalty shoot-out. Away goals do not count double.

What's at Stake

The Copa Libertadores is South America's most prestigious club competition. The four quarter-final winners move into the semi-finals, and the eventual champion earns continental bragging rights, significant prize money and a place in FIFA's international club competitions.
